Well. I'm a 'Platform Architect' with a global company now but 'still under dev' in many ways. I've been mainly been writing code for the last couple of years, Python but more recently been learning Golang and React building internal tooling that manages our on-prem infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines and regulatory systems. Still involved in systems design on Kubernetes and cloud (GCP) though and still supporting the development community. I enjoy coding. You spend an afternoon or days even, breaking through a code problem and you're left satisfied as you tidy up the unit tests. That feeling soon subsides though as you're aware no one will ever find that as interesting as you did. I've always been a jack of all trades or at least tried to be. Striving to extend...
A personal journal of an IT Operations Manager (nope, not BOFH , much nicer). I provide platforms for software engineers to deliver value for our employer. Therefore, I deliver value. Despite my career of supporting developers and providing platforms that sit 'under dev', I am always 'under dev' myself. I've been managing teams on and off for 15 years now and find myself 'managing' other technical managers for the last 5. It's a new career really. I am not a 'senior' engineer that also leads people. I have become just a manager with a degree of technical experience. This is a personal challenge and something I feel I should write about, just as many others in the Tech industry are waking up to the reality of their work lives. Anyway. I aim to start building out my thoughts here on this crappy Blogger...
